The principal function of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland is to take all reasonable steps to ensure that food produced, distributed or marketed in the State meets the highest standards of food safety and hygiene reasonably available and to ensure that food complies with legal requirements, or where appropriate with recognised codes of good practice.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

DEFRA is a government department in the UK.
They make policy and legislation, and work with others to deliver our policies in - areas such as:the natural environment, biodiversity, plants and animals, sustainable development and the green economy ,food, farming and fisheries, animal health and welfare, environmental protection and pollution control rural communities and issues.

They work closely with the devolved administrations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and generally lead on negotiations in the EU and internationally.
