New Accredited Soil and C&D Waste Testing Methods

Accreditation Update – New Soil and C&D Waste Testing Methods Added

Fitz Scientific is pleased to announce an extension to our INAB scope of accreditation to include a suite of new tests on Soil and Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste materials. This development enhances our capabilities in supporting environmental, ground investigation and waste management projects in line with regulatory and best practice standards.

The newly accredited methods cover both leachate and total solid fraction testing. On prepared leachate samples, Fitz Scientific can now offer accredited analysis for:

• Chloride

• Fluoride

• Sulphate

• Conductivity

• Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC)

For the total solid fraction, accredited testing is now available for:

• Total Organic Carbon (TOC)

• Mineral Oil

• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

In line with best practice, our VOC testing follows BS 10176:2020 – Taking soil samples for determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the current British Standard for VOC sampling. To support accurate and representative sampling, Fitz Scientific provides customers with the Combo Core Sampler from QED, a reliable solution for VOC soil sampling.

The testing methods are aligned with a range of recognised international and national standards, including:

• BS EN 12457-2 – Leaching compliance test for granular waste materials

• EN 13137 – Determination of VOCs in solid waste by headspace technique

• EU WAC Directive 2003/33/EC – Criteria for waste acceptance at landfills

• National End-of-Waste Decision EoW-N001 – Criteria for recycled aggregates

• ISO 5667-3 – Preservation and handling of water samples

• HazWasteOnline – Reporting provided in .hwol format for Waste Classification
